Now teenagers, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are entering their third year at Hogwarts, where they are forced to face an escaped prisoner named Sirius Black, who poses a great threat to Harry. Meanwhile, Harry and his friends learn how to control a magical hippogriff—half horse, half eagle—at school, chase away shape-shifting bogeymen, and hone their clairvoyant skills. They also visit the wizarding village of Hogsmeade and the Shrieking Shack, considered the most haunted house in all of Britain. To make matters worse, Harry must deal with Dementors, who suck the souls out of people, outwit a dangerous werewolf, and ultimately come to terms with the truth about Sirius Black and his relationship to Harry's parents.
