Priest Léon Morin is not one of those socially conscious priests; quite the opposite, in fact. Aware of his charm and personality, he likes to let women admire him, but he won't let them get any closer than that. He meets Barna, an atheist and widow of a Jewish communist, with whom he engages in intellectual discussions about faith and the nature of God. All this takes place under dramatic circumstances, during the occupation of the French city by fascist Italy.
