Greg Focker is head over heels in love with Pamela, so when the wedding announcement arrives from the girl's younger sister, he's ready to meet his bride's entire family and propose to her parents. A seemingly banal situation where both parties try to create the best impression of each other at all costs.

Father Byrnes, a former CIA agent, naturally distrustful and suspicious, is in a much better position. He's on home turf and, fundamentally, no one is good enough for his firstborn. Let alone a boy who doesn't have a positive relationship with cats, has lost his four-legged pet and wanted to awkwardly replace it with another from the shelter, is employed at the hospital as a nurse "brother," has a lie detector on him that reveals he knows full well what porn movies are, and has such a ridiculous and impossible last name to boot. On top of that, Greg is truly masterful at treading in porcelain and leaving havoc and desert in his wake. At one point, it looks like Pam will never say yes to him.
