This time, the small, nervous gendarme does not get caught in the snares of international crime, but in a much more treacherous snare, the snare of love. It all begins on the first day of the holidays, when Cruchot starts chasing a reckless driver in a red Mercedes, who turns out to be the widow of the commander-in-chief of the Lower Normandy gendarmerie, Josépha Lefrancois. She takes a liking to the dashing Cruchot, as he reminds her of her husband, and invites him to tea with her. Cruchot's superior, Sergeant Gerber, is also charmed by Josefa and envies his subordinate. He therefore teams up with Cruchot's daughter Nicole and devises a plan to thwart the budding love. However, not only does Nicole befriend Josépha, but all of Gerber's plains turn against him.
