Carla Campbell experiences the liberation of Italy with passion. She meets three American soldiers in ten days and experiences passion with all of them until dawn. When, after three Sundays, she discovers that these romances have not been without consequences, she takes advantage of the situation: she declares that the father of her daughter named Gia is Major Campbell, who was killed at the end of the war. At the same time, however, she writes to all three of her American acquaintances that they are the fathers of her daughter and receives allowances for them.

It all works out great and Carla enjoys her father's money. But only until the war heroes are invited back to the Italian town and all three want to meet their daughter, whom they have been contributing to for twenty years without their wives' knowledge...
