Damiel and Cassiel two angels, invisible to humans, are wandering in Berlin, before the fall of the wall. They listen and collect people's thoughts, the worries of their daily life. Angel have existed since the very begning, since the first light until today, they are the eternal witness of evolution. According to Cassiel, their raison d'être is to Observe, certify, preserve, collect, attest, remain spirit and stick to words rather than action. But Damiel is tired of his condition that forces him to remain a spectator and to simulate. What he aspires for is to feel, to experience the sensations of a daily life, to take off his shoes at the end of the day, to sit at a table and be friendly greeted, to feel feverish or even to walk on the street. He even falls in love with a trapeze artist, in depression since she learn her circus is closing down. He then meets Peter Falk a former angel who gave up eternal life to become human. Damiel will eventually take the same path. While he feels for the first time the sensations of mortal life, Cassiel, remains angel, he is tormented not to have prevented the suicide of a young man he was trying to save.
