A young American Jew decides to search for the fate of his ancestors in Ukraine. In particular, he wants to find the girl he believes saved his grandfather when the advancing Nazi troops were murdering the Jewish population. He finds a travel agency that specializes in Jewish tourists from the West who are searching for their ancestors. Alex, a Ukrainian, as young and naive as he is, becomes his guide. Together with Alex's grandfather, they travel to the Ukrainian countryside and together they uncover much more about the past than they would like. An adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's novel.
