Alex (Ben Stiller) and Nancy (Drew Barrymore) purchase a duplex apartment in Brooklyn, New York, with dreams of fixing it up and living the perfect life. However, their plans are thwarted when they discover that their elderly tenant, Mrs. Connelly, is an eccentric and stubborn woman who makes their lives miserable with her constant demands and noise.
